Dr Emma Horton is a substantive NHS Consultant Dermatologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and is on the GMC Specialist Register for Dermatology.
Originally from Yorkshire, Dr Emma studied medicine at Imperial College London, graduating with distinction and also completing a BSc in Immunology. She subsequently returned to Yorkshire and completed her specialist dermatology training across major teaching hospitals in the region before being appointed as a Consultant Dermatologist in Leeds.
Dr Emma is a member of the British Association of Dermatologists, the Royal College of Physicians, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Dermatology.
Outside of work, Dr Emma lives in Leeds with her husband and four young children. She enjoys running and spending time outdoors with her family.
Medical and surgical dermatology
Emma works within the tertiary dermatology service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, where her weekly NHS practice includes general dermatology, skin cancer and skin surgery, alongside specialist paediatric dermatology clinics.
Her specialist training covered the full breadth of medical and surgical dermatology, including acne, eczema and psoriasis, complex inflammatory skin disease, hair disorders, pigmentation, contact allergy, phototherapy, mole assessment, skin cancer and dermatological surgery.
This broad clinical background allows her to take a medical approach to the skin as a whole, whether someone is seeking help with a common skin problem or a more persistent or complex condition.

Personalised Acne Treatment
Dr Emma has a particular clinical interest in acne, offering personalised treatment for all types and severities of acne, from mild and persistent breakouts to more severe cases requiring oral treatments such as isotretinoin.
She has extensive experience in prescription skincare and individually compounded topical treatments, having founded a prescription skincare company specialising in personalised formulations for acne, rosacea, melasma and skin ageing.

Research and teaching
Emma has published research across a range of areas in dermatology, including acne, contact allergy and pruritus. She has led European research into cosmetic allergens and the development of a standardised cosmetic patch testing series, working with dermatologists across Europe.
Her work has been published in peer reviewed dermatology journals and presented at national and international meetings. She is also actively involved in teaching medical students and doctors within her NHS dermatology clinics.
Individual, evidence based care
Emma's wider training includes advanced aesthetics, giving her an understanding of both medical skin disease and the cosmetic concerns that can accompany it.
Her approach is medically led and evidence based. She takes time to understand what is troubling you, explain the diagnosis clearly and talk through the available treatment options, with the aim of creating a treatment plan that is both effective and realistic to follow.
“She was patient and gave me her time, didn't rush me.”
