Eczema & Psoriasis: dermatology condition
Inflammatory Skin

Eczema
and Psoriasis

Eczema and psoriasis are chronic conditions that can have a real impact on your day to day life. I offer specialist assessment and treatment for adults and children, with a focus on getting symptoms under control and keeping them that way.

When should you seek advice for Eczema & Psoriasis?

You don't need to be at crisis point to come and see me. If your skin is affecting your sleep, your confidence, or your day to day life, that's reason enough. It's also worth booking a consultation if:

Your current treatment has stopped working
You've never had a formal diagnosis
Your symptoms are getting worse
You're having frequent flare ups
You're not sure where to turn next

What to expect from your consultation

Step 1

Your History

I'll ask about your symptoms, how long you've been affected, what treatments you've tried, and how your condition is impacting your day to day life.

Step 2

Clinical assessment

I'll carry out a thorough examination of your skin to build a clear picture of what's going on.

Step 3

Diagnosis

I'll give you a clear diagnosis and, if needed, recommend any further investigations.

Step 4

Your treatment plan

You'll leave with a personalised treatment plan and a full understanding of what we're doing and why.

Treatment options for eczema and psoriasis

Treatment depends on the type and severity of your condition, previous treatments and how much it is affecting you. Dr Emma will discuss the options available and develop a treatment plan tailored to you.

Psoriasis plaques on the elbows

Topical treatments

Prescription creams and ointments can help control inflammation, relieve symptoms and protect the skin barrier. Treatment can be adjusted according to the areas affected and how your skin responds.

Tablets and a medicine bottle beside a glass of water

Oral treatments

For more persistent or severe eczema and psoriasis, oral treatment may sometimes be considered. Dr Emma can discuss whether this may be appropriate and advise on the available options.

Phototherapy and advanced treatments

Some patients may benefit from treatments such as phototherapy or newer targeted treatments. Dr Emma can advise whether these might be appropriate and discuss the options available. Where contact allergy is suspected, Dr Emma can advise on patch testing and recommend onward referral where appropriate.

Managing triggers and flare ups

Treatment is not only about managing the current flare. Dr Emma can advise on skincare, possible triggers and how to manage your condition when symptoms improve or flare again.
