Hair Loss
Hair loss can have a number of different causes, including alopecia areata, female and male pattern hair loss and hormonally influenced hair thinning. Dr Emma can assess the pattern of hair loss and discuss treatment options, which may include personalised topical treatments, oral medication or scalp injections depending on the diagnosis.
Understanding your hair loss
Dr Emma has herself experienced alopecia areata, giving her a personal understanding of how worrying hair loss can be and the impact it can have on confidence.
During your consultation, she will examine your hair and scalp and discuss your medical history, medications and family history. Where appropriate, further investigations may be recommended before developing an individual treatment plan.
What to expect from your consultation
Your history
I’ll ask when you first noticed the hair loss, how it has changed over time and whether there are any other symptoms or factors that may be relevant.
Hair and scalp assessment
I’ll examine the pattern of hair loss and the scalp to help establish the likely cause and whether any further investigation is needed.
Diagnosis and investigations
I’ll explain the likely diagnosis and whether any further investigations would be helpful before deciding on treatment.
Your treatment plan
We’ll discuss the treatment options that may be appropriate for your type of hair loss and agree a plan based on your individual circumstances.
Treatment options for hair loss
Treatment will depend on the underlying cause, the pattern of hair loss and your individual circumstances.

Topical treatments
Dr Emma has particular experience in personalised prescription and compounded topical treatments. These can be tailored to the individual and may form part of a longer term treatment plan for certain types of hair loss.

Oral medication
For some types of hair loss, oral medication may be an option. Dr Emma can discuss whether this may be appropriate for you and the treatment options available.

Scalp injections
Injections into affected areas of the scalp can be helpful for certain types of hair loss, particularly patchy alopecia areata. Dr Emma can discuss whether this treatment may be suitable for you.

Ongoing management
Some forms of hair loss require ongoing treatment and monitoring. Dr Emma can review how your hair is responding and adjust the treatment plan where appropriate.
